What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a proven treatment that can be used to improve many personal issues. It is an incredibly successful way of treating a host of emotional, psychological and habitual problems – without the use of medication or side-effects.

Solution focused hypnotherapy helps people achieve positive change in their life, rather than focusing on the problem, its approach centres around the solution. It is highly effective in changing behaviour patterns and reducing symptoms.

Solution-focused hypnotherapy does not require a deep dive into your past. Instead it is rooted firmly in the present. Together with me, you will work towards a much more positive future where you are firmly in control.

Hypnotherapy uses guided relaxation, intense concentration, and focused attention to achieve a heightened state of awareness. This is referred to as hypnosis or trance. In this state you are completely relaxed, you let go of tension, stresses and worries. It is in this state that we can deliver positive and beneficial suggestions directly to the unconscious mind which promotes rapid and long-lasting change. By using this method, it is possible to get off the merry-go-round which occurs when we try with our conscious minds to solve the issue.

We experience trance every day, naturally. It happens automatically anytime you become deeply relaxed or highly focussed. You've been in a hypnotic state or trance if you've ever driven along a familiar road and not remembered parts of the journey, or when you have been gardening or walking or sitting having a cup of tea and simply daydreaming about something which happened some point earlier. It is when we seem to ‘drift off’ for a few seconds. During hypnosis we induce a similar state.

Hypnosis allows you to really focus on a specific idea or outcome. In this state your brain is able to process solutions and achieve the outcomes that we together have been working towards.
During hypnosis you will always remain in full control. Your mind will only accept suggestions which are in your best interest – I cannot make you do anything that you do not want to do. Contrary to popular belief you will at no point be unconscious or asleep! Hypnosis is a natural state of mind and a natural relaxation. You are always in control. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy brings about amazing results and long-term solutions. 

Hypnosis takes you deeper into an awareness, through techniques such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP). In this altered state, you can access your subconscious mind, in order to heal and change patterns of thought and behaviour that no longer serve you, or that are holding you back in your current life. At this level, real change is possible.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

CBT is based on the concept that your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and actions are interconnected, and that negative thoughts and feelings can trap you in a vicious cycle. CBT aims to help you deal with overwhelming problems in a more positive way by breaking them down into smaller parts. CBT can show you how to change these negative patterns to improve the way you feel. Again, CBT deals with your current problems, rather than focusing on issues from your past. It can be useful tool to provide strategies to improve your state of mind on a daily basis.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) can bring about changes in perception, responsible communication and help us develop choices of responses or communication in a given situation. It works on the principle that everyone has all the resources they need to make positive changes in their own life. I use NLP techniques when helping clients overcome phobias or PTSD. It is also used successfully for enabling positive and confident performances for presentations or sport.
